‘Andor’ Creator Tony Gilroy Refuses to Release Scripts Over AI Concerns

Andor creator Tony Gilroy has scrapped plans to release the show’s scripts in book form, citing concerns that they could be used to train artificial intelligence models. Speaking to Collider, Gilroy revealed that while he initially wanted to publish the scripts—similar to how HBO’s Succession did—he ultimately decided against it due to the risks AI poses to writers.

“I wanted to do it. We put it together. It’s really cool. I’ve seen it, I loved it,” Gilroy said. “AI is the reason we’re not. It would be 1,500 pages that came directly off this desk. It’s just too much of an X-ray and too easily absorbed. Why help the f—ing robots anymore than you can?”

Gilroy explained that while publishing the scripts would have been a vanity project, the potential downside outweighed the benefits. His decision reflects growing concerns in the entertainment industry about AI’s impact on creative work, a major issue in last year’s Hollywood writers’ strike.

Meanwhile, Andor is gearing up for its highly anticipated second season, premiering April 22. The 12-episode season will be structured into four three-episode arcs, each spanning a few crucial days in the years leading up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor alongside Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, and Forest Whitaker.

With Andor’s next chapter on the horizon, Gilroy remains committed to protecting the integrity of his writing—even if it means keeping his scripts locked away.
