George Nolfi, celebrated for his work on The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, has been chosen to pen Star Wars: New Jedi Order, the highly anticipated film set to feature Daisy Ridley’s return as Rey Skywalker. This marks the latest development in a project that has seen multiple writers come and go since its announcement at Star Wars Celebration in 2023.

Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy in her narrative feature debut, the movie will take place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. Ridley’s Rey, now a seasoned Jedi, will guide a new generation of Force-wielders. Despite earlier setbacks, including the departures of writers Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson, and Steven Knight, Nolfi’s hiring signals renewed momentum for the film.

Nolfi brings a reputation for crafting elevated thrillers and fostering strong collaborations with actors. Beyond his Bourne and Ocean’s credits, he made his directorial debut with The Adjustment Bureau and recently helmed 2024’s Elevation, a post-apocalyptic thriller starring Anthony Mackie.

Production delays have pushed New Jedi Order behind other Star Wars projects, such as Shawn Levy’s untitled film featuring Ryan Gosling, set to begin shooting first. Fans can expect the next theatrical installment of the galaxy far, far away with The Mandalorian and Grogu, slated for a May 2026 release.

Nolfi’s involvement injects fresh excitement into the project, setting the stage for a bold chapter in the Star Wars saga.
