Court Orders Disney to Release Information in Gina Carano Lawsuit

The legal battle between actress Gina Carano and The Walt Disney Company took a major turn this week as the Central District of California Court ordered Disney to comply with discovery demands.

Carano, who was fired from Lucasfilm’s Star Wars franchise in 2021 after a controversial social media post, filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm. She claims her firing cost her a starring role in the rumored Rangers of the New Republic series. Disney attempted to have the case dismissed but was unsuccessful. Since then, Carano’s legal team accused Disney of stalling the discovery process for months, prompting a motion to compel. The court has now ruled in Carano’s favor.

Under the order, Disney must release information within 20 days regarding how much other Star Wars actors were paid. This data is considered critical to assess fair wage comparisons and determine potential damages.

Gene Schaerr, Carano’s attorney, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), where Carano also responded, calling the decision "a small breath of fresh air." She added, "I look forward to the details of my case becoming public and clearing my name... I remain incredibly grateful for this opportunity to defend myself against this Goliath."

The lawsuit has drawn significant public attention, especially with Carano’s vocal support from Elon Musk and X. As the case moves forward, Disney will now be required to cooperate with at least part of the information requested, setting the stage for the next phase of the legal battle.
