Fans of Star Wars literature have reason to celebrate as Matthew Stover’s Revenge of the Sith novelization is getting a deluxe hardcover re-release for the film’s 20th anniversary. Random House Worlds will publish the special edition on October 14, with a retail price of $60.

The original 2005 novelization is widely regarded as one of the best Star Wars books, offering a deeper exploration of Anakin Skywalker’s tragic fall to the dark side. However, the high price tag has raised some questions among fans. When asked on Reddit (r/starwarsbooks) about what justifies the cost, Random House Worlds editorial director Tom Hoeler, known online as DarthInternous, cryptically responded, “Time will tell. It always does.” This suggests that more details about the edition’s added value may be revealed closer to release.
This type of re-release echoes past publishing strategies, such as 2015’s The Rise of the Empire, which bundled A New Dawn and Tarkin with three exclusive short stories. Some fans speculate that the deluxe Revenge of the Sith edition may include similar bonus content.
In addition to this release, Random House Worlds is also reprinting the novelizations of the original Star Wars trilogy—A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi—which will hit shelves on July 29.
With its reputation as a must-read for Star Wars fans, the deluxe edition of Revenge of the Sith is likely to be a sought-after collectible, despite the premium price.
