The building that once housed Walt Disney World’s ambitious Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel will soon be repurposed as office space for Disney Imagineering, the company confirmed to Orlando media.
Reports of the transformation began circulating in late January, and Disney has now confirmed to WESH 2 that the move has been in the works since October. It remains unclear when renovation work will begin or when employees will move in.
Disney Imagineering, the creative powerhouse behind the company’s theme parks, attractions, resorts, and cruise ships, will take over the former hotel space, which once provided an immersive Star Wars experience for guests.
Galactic Starcruiser opened in March 2022, offering a two-night, story-driven adventure designed to resemble a luxury cruise through a galaxy far, far away. While praised for its groundbreaking storytelling and interactive elements, the experience was criticized for its steep pricing—starting at nearly $5,000 for two guests. After struggling to attract enough visitors, Disney announced the hotel's closure in May 2023, with the final "voyage" taking place that September.
Fans had hoped the building would be repurposed as a permanent Star Wars attraction. In a June 2023 interview, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro hinted that "something will happen" with the space, though no details were given at the time. Now, its fate is sealed as a workspace for the creative minds shaping Disney’s future experiences.
