Fans at MegaCon 2025 got an unexpected treat when Jude Law made a surprise appearance at the Skeleton Crew panel. During the discussion, Law revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes detail about his character, Jod Na Nawood—he had never used a lightsaber before the events of the show, and in keeping with that, Law himself chose not to train with one before filming.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Law explained that he and showrunners Jon Watts and Christopher Ford "kinda liked the idea that he had zero lightsaber experience." Despite having wielded swords in past roles, Law opted for no preparation whatsoever, which added to Jod’s unpolished and sometimes awkward handling of the weapon.
That decision fits the character’s story well. Jod never actually uses the lightsaber in combat—only to intimidate others and, in some instances, execute ruthless decisions. This also sheds light on his past with the Jedi. If his master was killed before he even had a chance to train with a lightsaber, it suggests his time among the Jedi was extremely short. The loss of a mentor so early in his journey likely shaped Jod’s cynical worldview and his obsession with security at all costs.
While Skeleton Crew hasn’t revealed much about Jod’s past, fans hope to see more in a potential sequel or spinoff. Whether through another live-action project, a novel, or a comic, there’s still plenty left to explore in his story.
