Lucasfilm has officially announced Star Wars: Path of the Lightsaber, a new canon manga series set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. The series will follow Nioka, a young tinkerer who dreams of becoming a Jedi after idolizing Luke Skywalker.

As reported by ScreenRant, the story kicks off when Nioka stumbles upon a real lightsaber while exploring the wreckage of a High Republic-era ship. However, others with more sinister intentions are also searching for the weapon, setting up a high-stakes adventure in a rarely explored period of Star Wars lore.

Further details about the manga remain under wraps, but fans can expect more information at Star Wars Celebration 2025, which fittingly takes place in Japan this April.

While the Sequel Trilogy remains part of Star Wars canon, Disney has largely avoided revisiting its era since The Rise of Skywalker concluded the saga in 2019. This manga marks one of the few new stories set within that timeframe. However, Lucasfilm is slowly returning to this corner of the galaxy, with an upcoming film starring Daisy Ridley’s Rey set to explore what comes next.

This is not the first official Star Wars manga, as previous adaptations of novels and original stories have expanded the franchise’s reach in the medium. With Path of the Lightsaber, Lucasfilm is once again embracing manga as a storytelling format, offering a fresh perspective on the Jedi’s legacy.
