Zynga’s Star Wars: Hunters, the free-to-play multiplayer game for Nintendo Switch and mobile, will officially shut down on October 1, 2025, just 17 months after its full launch. The game’s final update, set to arrive on April 15, will introduce one last playable character before servers go offline later this year.

Originally soft-launched in late 2021 and 2022 before its official debut on June 4, 2024, Hunters struggled to find long-term success. Despite a vibrant character roster, the game received mixed reviews, earning a 55/100 on Metacritic. Critics and players cited a lack of arena variety and the absence of an Xbox or PlayStation release as major shortcomings.
The game’s development faced multiple delays, and while it saw post-launch updates and even a tie-in novel in 2023, it ultimately failed to maintain a strong player base. Some speculate that its insistence on introducing all-new characters—rather than relying on established Star Wars icons—may have limited its appeal.
While its presence on the Nintendo Switch, the best-selling console of its generation, likely helped boost player numbers, its omission from Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 may have hindered its reach.
With Hunters set to close, fans are left wondering when the next multiplayer Star Wars game will arrive. Hopefully, the next attempt will learn from Hunters’ struggles and deliver a more compelling experience across all major platforms.
